Esteemed Scholars to Present Groundbreaking Research at IPSA 2025 World Congress

Date: 03.02.2025

In a significant academic development, Pawel Nowakowski and Mateusz Zieliński, two distinguished scholars from the ENCODE project, are set to present their highly anticipated paper at the International Political Science Association (IPSA) 2025 World Congress of Political Science. Their paper, entitled “From Affective Polarization to Affective Pluralization,” promises to offer fresh perspectives and innovative insights into the dynamics of political polarization.
The IPSA World Congress, one of the most prominent international gatherings in the field of political science, will bring together leading scholars, policymakers, and practitioners to discuss pressing issues within the discipline. This year’s congress, which will take place in Seoul, provides an ideal platform for the presentation of cutting-edge research, particularly in the realm of political behavior and social cohesion.
Nowakowski and Zieliński’s paper addresses the growing concern of affective polarization, a phenomenon where individuals’ emotional attachments to political parties or ideologies are intensifying, often leading to greater division and conflict in society. However, their research goes further, offering a novel concept: affective pluralization. This concept explores the ways in which political attitudes and affiliations are diversifying in response to complex societal changes, including shifts in identity, media consumption, and social networks.
The ENCODE project aims to implement an innovative approach to studying the intersection of emotion, identity, and politics. By examining how political affiliations are increasingly shaped by personal and emotional factors, the project aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of how modern societies are evolving politically.
The presentation is expected to attract considerable attention from political scientists and academics interested in the future of political polarization. As global political dynamics continue to evolve, the insights presented by Nowakowski and Zieliński promise to contribute significantly to the ongoing academic and public discourse.
As the 2025 IPSA World Congress approaches, the research community eagerly anticipates the opportunity to engage with these groundbreaking ideas and explore the potential implications for the future of political science.
